Obama Wants Attention On Job Creation, Not Healthcare Woes

On November 8, Friday, President Barack Obama tries to shift the national conversation to economic growth from anger over insurance policy cancellations under his signature healthcare law, as he visits the Port of New Orleans.

The next day after Obama said in a nationally televised interview he was sorry some Americans were dropped by their health plans because of changes mandated by the Affordable Care Act, he will tour a busy cargo and cruise ship port, the White House said.

Again, he will convey the message that the United States should spend more on its roads, bridges and ports as a way to create jobs and strengthen U.S. firms through increased trade.

Said on Friday, he will speak after the government that employers added 204,000 jobs in October despite a 16-day government shutdown, although the jobless rate ticked up to 7.3 percent.

The White House expected that there would have been 120,000 additional jobs created in the month if not for the shuttering of government offices regardless of the surprisingly strong employment report.

The administration has repeatedly said that the economy would be growing more rapidly and job growth would be more robust without the shutdown, prompted by Republican efforts to defund or delay the healthcare law, known as Obamacare. Yet, the jobs report suggested the impact of the shutdown on the economy was slighter than many had thought.

The Mississippi River port will provide Obama an appropriate setting to discuss about his proposal to spend $50 billion to repair and upgrade the nation's infrastructure and efforts to expand trade.

The president "believes that exports are central to our national economy and has made increasing exports a major focus for his administration," the White House said in a statement.

However, because of lingering questions about Obamacare, Obama's efforts to press Congress for more spending to strengthen economic growth will be overshadowed.

The failed even out of the online signup process for insurance was the first major crisis for the program, which aspires to expand access to healthcare for millions of uninsured Americans by offering insurance at competitive prices.

The next problem has been an epidemic of insurance cancellations in spite of Obama's promise that consumers could keep their present health plans if they wanted them.

The hinders have given ammunition to the law's many enemies and skeptics and lifted uncertainties whether the healthcare plans can draw enough healthy young people to keep the costs of insurance low.

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, a Republican, will be at the port when Obama delivers his remarks. But Jindal made clear on Thursday his disagreement with Obama on healthcare and other issues.

"Obamacare is not smart policy and will not work," he said. "The website is merely the tip of the iceberg here."

Jindal also took issue with Obama's prescription for more spending to repair infrastructure.

"We keep increasing spending, adding entitlements, adding regulations, and adding taxes," Jindal said. "If the president wants to grow the American economy, he's got to force government to do just the opposite."

Former Calif. Scandal City Manager Won’t Contest 69 Criminal Counts

According to allegation, Robert Rizzo, the former city administrator of Bell, Calif., could have been the king of swindling public sector employees not so long ago.  Today, Rizzo just pleaded no contest to 69 counts in his corruption trial, according to a Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office press release.  And he’s likely to get the “the longest prison term for public corruption” — the judge says 10 to 12 years — in the area since 2000.
Came in no more than a week before a jury was to be chosen, Rizzo’s plea was a surprise to everyone counting the DA.  “An open plea”, this is what the DA’s office calls the move to the presiding judge and was not a negotiated settlement.

According to the DA’s statement Rizzo was part of an alleged corruption ring that reportedly included his one-time deputy and co-defendant, former assistant city manager Angela Spaccia.  On Monday, her trial is scheduled to start.  Furthermore, five former Bell elected officials — including a mayor, vice-mayor, and three council members — were already found guilty in March.
The reports say the ring was as brazen as it was large.  The five ex-officials paid themselves salaries topping off at $100,000 yearly in a city of 35,000 people, 25 percent of whom lived underneath the poverty line.   An audit had found that the officials unlawfully raised local taxes and fees to fund their salaries.
They were pikers as compared to what allegedly went on somewhere else.  According to the report, Rizzo’s paycheck reached a $1.5 million peak in a year when he had 107 vacation days and 36 sick days.  His salary before he resigned in July 2010 was just under what must have seemed in comparison a paltry $800,000, according to the DA’s office.  Putting it into context, that’s about twice what the President of the United States makes.
According to television station KTLA, Rizzo was charged with a variety of schemes that cost the city millions of dollars, including writing his own employment contracts that never received City Council approval.  It seems that, Rizzo is claiming that Spaccia was the real mastermind at the back of the fraud.
Allegations of dubious practices don’t end here.  A former police chief of Bell Randy Adams was overthrown in 2010 amidst the larger pay scandal.  Aside from the benefits, he had been making $457,000 yearly. Compile them and the amount go up to total compensation of $770,046.  In the previous year he filed a case against the city for his separation pay, claiming that he was forced out and had never agreed to give up his severance.  Throughout the suit, he was drawing a $22,000 monthly pension.

Britain on track at last as employment rises

Base from official figures, Britain is finally “on track” to recover from the economic crisis with employment back at the same level as in 2008.

The economy grew by 0.6 per cent between April and June despite earlier speculation that there may have been a renewed recession. This has been followed by another rise earlier in the year.

There are optimistic signs of growth with employment and the number of hours worked returning to pre-crisis levels, ending a five-year slump.

But, in totality the size of the economy is still way smaller than previous to the crisis and politicians were last night eager to stress that Britain still faces years of austerity and improbability before it will have fully recovered.

George Osborne, the Chancellor, said that the country was “on the mend” as he prepared to make improving the economy his key message at the next general election.

“The figures are better than forecast,” Mr Osborne said. “Britain is holding its nerve. We are sticking to our economic plan.

“Britain is on the mend, but we’ve got to stick with the plan because there’s still a long way to go.”

David Cameron, who went on his annual summer holiday, added: “We are on the right track — building an economy for hard-working people.”

Nonetheless, senior politicians also gave warning to people “not to get carried away”and stressed that ministers were not complacent.

Vince Cable, the Business Secretary, said that he would not be prepared to declare that the economy had recovered before there had been another “two or three years” of strong growth.

Neil Bentley, the deputy director-general of the CBI, said that the figures confirmed that Britain was on the road to recovery although there were likely to be “a few bumps ahead”.

“Underlying conditions are quite weak as consumers are still saddled with debt and despite the global economy picking up, the potential for getting knocked off course remains,” he said.

According to the Office for National Statistics, growth over the past year has been 1.4 per cent, with the strong performance of service firms such as hotels and restaurants leading the recovery.

The rise in gross domestic product (GDP) of 0.6 per cent throughout the second quarter of the year was the first time since 2011 that Britain has seen back-to-back quarterly growth, and doubled the 0.3 per cent figure for the previous period.

“After five years, people are seeing that Armageddon has been narrowly avoided and while they realise the economic world is precarious, life is going on,” Tim Martin, chairman and founder of JD Wetherspoon pubs, said.

Economic experts said that an analysis of the figures showed that domestic economic demand was growing steadily and the main drag on the economy was external, foreign influences.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) also warned that the eurozone countries face years of economic stagnation without greater efforts to boost banks and employment.

“Incomplete or stalled policy commitments at the national or euro-area level could also reignite financial market stresses” the IMF said in a review of the 17-nation currency bloc.

“Over the medium-term, there is a high risk of stagnation, especially in the periphery [of the single currency area].”

Are looking for a career change because the dismal legal job market left you feeling down? According to a recent Wall Street Journal article, your law degree can open more doors than you’d think. Here are five tips for switching careers if you’re a lawyer:

1.The first thing you should do is to review your finances. Consider doing a consulting work on the side while changing careers. An example is many law firms have a need for document reviewers.
2.Know what motivates you. Evaluate your skills and passions.
3.Assess your skills. Nearly all lawyers have transferable skills, counting being highly analytical, persuasive and having an ability to multitask. Look for non-law jobs linked to your specialties.

Women in development : 18 tips for career success

The following is a collection of expert advice from our panel on the challenges and opportunities for women in development
http://www.westhillconsulting-career.com/blog/2013/08/29/women-development-18-tips-career-success/

Ayse Cihan Sultanoglu, UN assistant secretary-general, New York, US. @csultanoglu

To get to the top, don't be afraid of starting at the bottom: In building a career in development it is important that you experience living and working in developing countries. This could mean that you must be willing to do something that you had never really considered or something that is out of your comfort zone. Young women shouldn't be afraid of starting at the bottom.

The problem is not at the top, but at middle management level: Not having women in top positions isn’t the challenge or attracting women at entry levels also does not seem to be too difficult either but the lagging numbers of women in middle-management positions is the problem.

Make sure you are adaptable: In any field, you need to renew yourself constantly, maybe more so in development. It is diverse, dynamic and constantly evolving because of its very nature so there is always room for innovation, learning and sharing.

Jackie Asiimwe, country manager, Wellspring Advisers, Uganda. @asiimwe4justice

Emotions make a leader authentic: Women are being branded as too emotional making it seem that emotions are a bad thing. In my own leadership journey, I have decided I will embrace my emotions because they are part of what makes me human and woman. Emotions are part of being an authentic leader. We cannot be clinical about leadership, Jackie Asiimwe said.

Rushanara Ali, shadow minister for international development, London, UK. @rushanaraali

We need anti-discrimination laws that are properly enforced: nowadays, anti-discrimination laws to protect women in the labor market and public institutions are very crucial in any society. If those laws are not properly enforced then too often women have to rely on the goodwill, patronage and whims of men to have fair chance to make a contribution to the economy and the society they live in.

Programmes to develop leadership skills are key: here is what we should do, we must invest in leadership development, building strong networks and providing mentoring opportunities and resources to help women get plugged into the power structures if we want to see more women in parliaments around the world.

Liz Bowen, HR manager (field staffing), Médecins Sans Frontières, London, UK

Women working in the field face a separate challenge: They say that in countries where women have a more subservient role they are actually viewed as a kind of 'separate' gender. An instance is they won't be treated like the male expats they are working with or like the local females.

Success is not just about getting to the 'top': I chose not to climb the executive ladder and instead work in a role which allows me to make a significant contribution to the humanitarian sector while still being able to spend time with my young daughter. For me this is a significant achievement, says Liz Bowen.

Organizational cultures need to be challenged from within: she said, we must work on shifting the accepted norms and push our organizations to open their minds about creative working patterns for women in leadership roles.

Adele Nandan, director of international education, Opportunity International, Chicago, US. @OpportunityIntl

Mentoring: Mentorship is serious but there needs to be a greater stress placed on mentoring not only western women in the global development field but women from the countries in which we're working too.

Mary Woodgate, senior manager of global programmes,Accenture Development Partnerships, London, UK. @MaryWoodgate

What does leaning in look like in development?: All with passion and personal investment for your and your organisation's development goals you must do the following: speaking up, asking questions, innovating, networking, accepting responsibility and accountability.

It is important to communicate vision in a human way: I think there's a real role for female creative thinkers who can tell a compelling narrative, or describe a future vision in order to get people mobilised around an idea and able to leave some of their institutional 'baggage' behind and cut through the potential barriers — especially in impactful partnerships, says Mary Woodgate.

Resource: Women in development must read from the article 'Women need to realise work isn't school'. They will learn some tips.

Laure Blanchard-Brunac, principal banker, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, London, UK

Find your voice while you are young: it is always better to start early, according to Laure Blanchard-Brunac, the younger you are when starting to speak up, attend board meetings, senior official gatherings where women are under-represented, the better it is: with time you get used to it and the men get used to it too, most of them will remain focus on your added value and will see you, if not as an equal, at least as a trusted partner.

Women need stronger support networks: males are still more dominant in some developing community. Power networks are still male networks in the development community. Getting support from mentors, people more senior than you in the organization you work in — male or female — is tremendously important. As a woman, when climbing the ladder you will be more isolated than your male counterparts so you need stronger support.

Marinke van Riet, international director, Publish What You Pay, London, UK. @Marinkekarianne

Whether to 'lean in' or 'lean back' depends on context: there are times that you have to lean in and take an unpopular decision. But on the other hand, other times simply your silent presence can be enough for people to reach consensus. Even the term leadership can be interpreted differently depending on the process of decision making: for instance very different styles are needed in implementing organizations rather than in coalitions.

Being spontaneous and intuitive can lead to success: I didn't plan my career very carefully. All I know is that I have been ambitious right from the start, never said no to things I was secretly scared to do, and have not been afraid to make mistakes or ask 'stupid' questions, says Marinke van Riet.

Jeni Klugman, director of gender and development, World Bank, Washington, DC, US

Without a supportive partner, success is almost impossible: The key is having because supportive partner without that a successful career in development is pretty much impossible. You need the flexibility to travel, to live abroad for extended periods of time, and a family that is happy to join in on the journey.

Tips for Embracing Thorns on Your Journey to Success

• Different is GOOD. Never retreat from new and different experiences, opportunities, and challenges.  It is not bad if you can learn something from it.  Adding the unique value preposition, yes it is you; it is definitely not a mistake.  Being different is a plus in most every instance - this is what true diversity is all about.

• Difficulty yields GROWTH.  There will be no growth if you won’t stretch yourself, physically, emotionally and mentally.  Your nearest potential will not be realized  unless you try.  But remember that this doesn’t mean that we must be stressed all the time because it is not healthy.  We all need downtime to recover and rejuvenate.  Never retreat and avoid something just because it is hard.  Just go with it, step forward and eventually you'll figure out a way through it.

• Failing is LEARNING.  Don’t take failing all negatively, remember that some of  your best experiences and development will come from.  You will learn a lot from failing, most of the learning in life is learned from it.  And keep in mind that you are not a failure just because you failed.  It will allow you to figure out the difference between being the best and being your best.

• LEAN ON others.  Learn to have a good relationship with other people, life is about the relationships you create, develop, and grow.  Remember the saying no man is an island; it is because your journey is not one that you must go alone.  You will grow much from the support of others and will have opportunities to support others yourself.  Many of life's greatest joys come from this.  People who make you better and don't tear you down are people you need in you life.

• IT IS all about YOU (not them). There will always be people who will put you down and you will run to them almost often.  They will call you out in a negative light and these may come for whatever reason, and sometimes that reason won't be evident. They will work to derail you.  Don't worry about them and their success, focus on yours. It is you that is important and not them.  This is the proverbial: "Life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you react to it."  You have no hold on how those around you behave, but you absolutely have ownership of every choice you make.

Types of Personal Assistant Scams

A usual personal assistant scams offer various payment for helping them transfer money to businessmen at other companies. What they do is they will send you a check or money order. They are asking you to forward part of the money while you keep a percentage of it. And of course it will turn out that the check is fraudulent and you will be mandated to pay back your bank.

What other scams do is they will ask for a personal assistant who then will receive and ship different packages. These are in fact illegal good but the scammer will claim these packages are related to his company. They will also send you or they might send you a fraudulent check for shipping cost. With addition to your dilemma not only you will be forced to pay back for the fraudulent check, you could also be charged with mailing illegal goods.

How to Avoid Personal Assistant Scams In general, you should always research on an employer first before committing; this also applies with these kinds of scams. Make sure you research an employer before applying for a job. Some listings for personal assistants are tremendously unclear, only citing that the employer works from home. Do not hesitate to ask because you have the every right to ask for any information concerning the company with which your potential employer is associated. An example is if the employer says he is a lawyer working from home, make sure he has actually worked on cases or belonged to a real firm. It is a simple logic.

How to Tell Legitimate Work at Home Jobs From Scams

Avoid scams by following these tips.

Use common sense. Assess! Consider the logic of an opportunity from the other side. Think about this, if they are paying you so much for so little work, how would the promoters of the opportunity make money? Moreover if a company’s marketing tactic is mainly based on coming out legitimate, that is probably because it is tendering a work at home scam…or at the very least a poor money-making opportunity. So remember this, any job that promotes itself in search engine ads as a “legitimate work at home job” almost certainly not legit.

Do your homework. Sending money to any organization without thoroughly checking it out is most certainly wrong! Always remember that legitimate companies do not charge job applicants and that business opportunities are never risk-free

Know how to spot the work at home scam. One very complicated trick is a scam technique that sets up a whole website dedicated to revealing work at home scams and then funnel people to the few “legitimate” work at home jobs which those are not legitimate of course.

Know the typical work at home scams. Scammers are always developing new schemes, and work-at-home scammers are no different. Below are some that you must avoid. Direct Sales or multilevel marketing (MLM) Pyramid Schemes - Always avoid! Business start-up kits Anything involving cashing checks/wiring money – Always avoid! Home assembly/envelope stuffing – Always avoid! Becoming a product re-seller or wholesaler Stock trading systems – Always avoid! Directories of telecommuting jobs or businesses Taking online surveys Mystery shopping Data entry/call centers (Some are legit but, the lure of these jobs is used to sell bogus start-up kits and other scams.)

Avoid job opportunities found on advertising on search engines and many websites. Remember that legit companies are looking for legit work home jobs and just like any other employer, are looking for qualified, reliable people to do the work. Screening applicants is a time-consuming procedure so therefore those casting a wide net by using Google or search engine ads may not be legitimate.

Don’t pay for opportunities. Employers don’t charge employees to work for them, you have got to remember that! And those scams posing as “legitimate business opportunities” will ask for money. Businesses are expected to have start-up costs nonetheless true businesses are normally not simple exchanges of unskilled labor for payment, as in home assembly and envelope-stuffing schemes.

Report scams. Report immediately if you suspect that you have been scammed. If you’ve given out financial information contact your bank at once. And report it to your state’s attorney general or any number of other authorities.

How to Determine the Right Career for You

Determine the Right Career for You

Love what you do. This is one of the secrets in order to become successful. It isn’t a perfect career if what it does is simply an answer to your needs and wants but it must also be something that you are passionate about. Find your perfect career in three easy steps.

Know what your dream is

Picture yourself in the future, what are you doing by then? What is it that you want to become? And most especially, what is the thing that you love doing the most? Your answers will help you land on the industry and job types that fit you the most.

Determine your strengths and skills. Think and process things on your mind many times so you’ll figure out where you can put your best career qualities to good use. Note all your accomplishments that may be able to help you improve your profile. Aside from this will lead you to your perfect career and dream job, it will also boost your confidence.

Research on careers that can identify to the things that you love doing; this will help you on decision making. You have the choice to either take a free career test or consult a career chart that you can find in many career websites. And you can also find a wealth of information, from description of positions to salary range in these career websites.

Discover all the possibilities.

Find job openings that suit your interests. Do not limit your job search to newspaper ads and online jobs databases and job fairs and networking events will also help. There are also unpopular ways of getting job prospects but it will be also as effective as the traditional ones, if not more.

Conquer the hurdles.

The most obvious hurdles that you need to face during your job search are: maybe you have the record of a job hopper, or maybe you have always wanted to be in a career that does not fit your current skills.

It will be impossible to cover up career inconsistencies in a resume so you must prepare your answers to job interview questions. Of course the recruiters would want to know the reasons behind those and you are left with no choice but answer them in the most honest way. These will leave a bad impression so to avoid that twist the negative statement into a positive one. Saying that you view these setbacks as a learning experience and that you have grown stronger as a professional since the career disaster happened will help for sure.

Make Your Hobby a Money-Making Career

Who doesn’t like to do what they love doing and at the same time earn money from it.  Some people may find it impossible and disagree but believe that it can happen.

You can actually make this happen, it is very possible to make money as a photographer, a writer, a crafter, or whatever it is that you enjoy.

All you got to do is start thinking like an entrepreneur and turn your hobby into a different light.

Below are some advices that can help you move towards money making while actually doing what you enjoy.

Look at things differently.

If what you are creating now isn’t exactly what the people are looking for or something they would pay for, think of ideas and create a similar product or use your skills in a slightly different way, one that is more marketable.

One people will pay for.

In one case for instance, you are very passionate about taking photos of flowers but who would want to buy them, but people might pay you to take portraits of them, their children or perhaps a wedding.

You love writing poetry but you cannot earn a paycheck for it but small businesses will perhaps hire you to write creative copy for their website.

There are marketable sides in your hobby just try to figure it out and be creative.

Be flexible.

As soon as you are aware of how the hobby could earn you a paycheck next step is you have to be willing to practice your skill in that way.

Selling out is out of the question but figuring out how to make a living doing what you love.

Even if shooting wedding photos is not really your true passion but photographing flowers, you might have to consider it once in a while.

And while this is all happening, you making money out of covering wedding photos, you got to improve your skills and broaden your network in the course then you can work toward finding or creating an audience for your flower photographs.

It doesn’t mean that making money from your hobby will never bore you some time so it is better to be flexible and give a little to be able to get a lot back.

Be willing to sell.

Money will not come to you unless you sell your products and yourself as well.

So if you have doubts and not willing to do it then do not pursue the dream and leave it once.

Some people do not enjoy selling more especially those who consider themselves as artists or creative but it is definitely important component to making a living off your hobby.  Remember you can not rely to anyone because no one is going to do this for you.

Stop feeling guilty and learn to sell yourself.

No one is going to hate you for trying to make money as long as you do this in a very decent way.

People will actually going to respect and admire you for thinking outside the box.

Get out there and promote.

Simple logic, no one will buy from you if in the first place they were not informed about your product and what you had to offer.

You need to spend time in promotion.

The most practical, cheapest, modern and most popular way to promote yourself is trough growing a blog.

It would be very helpful to show your value so people actually want to pay you for whatever you offer, without you having to beg them.

It will be more excellent if you provide great value online, it will display quickly because blog posts are easy to share, and you’ll benefit from search engine traffic, too.

Don’t make the mistake of hosting your blog on a site that’s different from where you’re selling if you’re blogging to turn your hobby into a living.

People who come to your blog via search or social sharing will also see your paid work and hopefully convert into buyers if you sell in the same place where you offer free information.

Remember word of mouth is very powerful.

Figure out how to scale.

The problem with a lot of hobbies is they aren’t easily scalable.

Teach other people to do certain parts of the job so you can complete jobs more productively and without sacrificing quality

Grow a team of people to help so you can take on more clients while continuing to deliver high-quality work

we often want to do everything ourselves when it comes to a passion project so the tendency is  it will be a bit difficult to figure out what someone else can do for you.

However eventually you’ll likely identify ways other great people can help, so you can grow.

If you totally can’t cipher out how to scale, aspire to charge more for your services over time.

Putting more time on promotion will help you achieve this goal, since the more you and your work are in demand, the more you can increase your prices.

You just have to be creative about how you bring in the cash from your hobby.

Dos and Don’ts during Interview - Westhill Consulting Employment & Career Builder

DOS

  • Dress smartly, look bright and attentive, and speak clearly and confidently. Don’t forget that in the first few minutes only 7% of the interviewer’s opinion of you is formed by what you say – the rest is judged on how you look, act and sound
  • find out where the venue is beforehand, how to get there and how long it takes
  • get your outfit ready the night before
  • find out what kind of interview it will be so you can prepare
  • examine the person specification and your CV/application form, and think about what type of questions they will ask you
  • Prepare answers for the main questions – for example, why do you want the job, what are your strengths and weaknesses, what are the main tasks in this job?
  • make about three or four points in each answer
  • quote real examples of when you’ve used certain skills – just saying you’ve got a skill isn’t enough
  • take your time when answering the questions: make sure you understand the question and take your time if you need to think
  • Sell yourself: no one else is going to! Be positive about yourself and your experiences
  • Prepare some questions to ask at the end of the interview – use it as an opportunity to find out more about the role and the company. (Don’t ask about money or perks just yet!)
  • when discussing salary, know your market worth and start by quoting a little higher than this
  • get feedback on your performance, whether you were successful or not
  • turn off your mobile phone: treat the interviewers with respect and give them your undivided attention
  • keep your answers focused on what you can do for the employer, not what they can do for you

DON’TS

  • don’t be late
  • don’t swear or use slang words
  • don’t slouch in your seat or do anything that makes you look uninterested
  • don’t smoke
  • Don’t lie: the interviewer may see through you. Even if you get the job, your employer can dismiss you if they find out that you have not been honest
  • Don’t let your nerves show too much; a few nerves are normal but extreme nerves will affect your performance. Use breathing techniques and try to remember that it’s not a life and death situation – there are plenty of jobs out there!
  • Don’t be arrogant and assume you’ve got the job. Nothing turns off employers more than someone who is disrespectful and over-confident
  • don’t discuss controversial topics such as religion, politics and gender relations
  • don’t read from notes or your CV — you should be familiar enough with your own history to be able to talk about it unprompted
  • Don’t criticize former employers or colleagues. Interviewers may mark you down as a troublemaker and a gossip
  • Don’t argue with the interviewer, no matter what. Remember to keep things positive!

Have a habit of updating your database daily. Take note of all the employers you contact, the date you sent your résumé, any contact made, people you talk to, and notes about those contacts. Take note of opportunities as soon as you hear them; better keep a notepad at all times. Also a “to do” list can help so that you can organize your list of priorities and keep you focused on finding that perfect job.

A company always helps; a friend who is in a job search too can help you. Arrange to speak weekly and report on accomplishments, best practices, and future plans.

Be updated to all there is about employers in your field, read trade journals or professional publications, and read the newspaper. It is very impressive during an interview if you know about the latest merger or coup in the industry.

Practice for each interview, practice makes perfect! Be prepared and you can nail it for sure! And do not ever miss an opportunity, as soon as you here about an opening go ahead and call at once.

Stay confident, this is very important, interviewer can sense if you are nervous and you lack confidence that could make you fail the interview. Job hunting could be very tiring and it sure to take your time and energy. Remain confident, but prepare yourself for challenges ahead and do not over do it. Don’t get disgruntled if you are still looking for a job and it seems like everyone you know has an offer.

Resume writing tips

There are hundreds of people that send out their resume every hour, so how can you make yours stand out from the manager’s pile?

Use the standard font, who would take a funny font seriously, or who would font that could hurt your eyes. Fonts such as Times New Roman and Georgia are your best bets for making it readable, as well as a 10- to 12-point size. Don’t try to impress them with overwhelming fonts, HR reps just wants a resume they can read and that captures the skill sets they are looking for. Arial and Tahoma are also accepted. Using other font can make your resume looking sloppy, disorganized, crowded and informal. If applying as a creative position such a graphic design, your resume is expected to be creative.

Keep important points at the top, most hiring manager are scanning your resume quickly and may concentrate mainly on the top half. Emphasize your most significant skills and experience first and then work your way down to other relevant information. The following resume subheadings could be included: Contact Info, Summary of Core Qualifications, Relevant Work Experience, Relevant Volunteer and Other Experience, Education and Honors & Awards.

Remember that resume also speaks about your personality as well as it showcase your experience and skills so do not be stiff and show them what you got. Speak with confidence and ease when describing your accomplishments. A boring document is uninteresting, try to come across as friendly and open, professional but personable, and super-knowledgeable in your field to add depth.

Clean up your resume regularly, if you can make it a page, better. Make sure that there are no grammatical and typo errors. A single error could make your resume sit in the trash. Review your resume regularly to make sure to make changes on the updates needed. Outdated resume can take away your chances of getting hired. Sending in a clean resume that gets straight to the point will be your best bet at landing the interview because like said earlier, they only scan a quick look and a clean resume is a big plus.
